Do you ever find half finished posts in your drafts? I found this one and decided to pull TV Talk out of the grave yard! Any way, y'all know I am a TV addict. So many of my all time favorite shows have been over for YEARS and if you haven't watched them, I need you to binge them now.
Some surprising things for some of you that Friends and Gilmore Girls are not listed on here. They just were never obsessions of mine, that may change who knows.
1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
This is my all time favorite show. Nothing will ever top Buffy. You know a show is amazing if it can pull off a musical episode, it is my everything. Buffy paved the way for young girls to be taken seriously in media. The writing is incredible, the characters are unforgettable, and the story arcs are amazing.
You're going to find quite a few WB shows on this list, because they had the best teen shows. Seriously, the WB says goodbye commercials will make me cry on demand. Charmed sits right up there with Buffy for me. Charmed definitely had its ups and downs as far as story telling goes, but it was so successful in developing the most incredible characters and world. The first few seasons are definitely my favorite. I kind of wanted to be Piper as a kid.
Roswell was adapted from a book series, which I also read, and it centered around a group of teens who were from the "Roswell spaceship crash." It was a fun adventure story that weaved science fiction with the angsty teen melodrama we all love. You'll fall in love with the atmosphere, the characters, and then all of the shipping! (Also, I wish shows had the long opening credit scenes with clips from the show and a theme song. I miss those so much!)
4. Veronica Mars
We're getting to some more recent and less 90s shows. Veronica Mars is just phenomenal. I binged this on DVD and then caught up on Itunes in the middle of season three, then it got cancelled. You know how great a show is now by whether it can get rebooted in some way. They had a movie, it launched Kristen Bell's career, and it was hilarious. The mystery element of the show is amazing. But it has one of the best ships ever, LoVe.
5. True Blood
I binge watched True Blood last year and I was just consumed by it. I had read the first two books and watched the first season, but I never continued on. It did have its down moments, but Eric gave the show life for me. I'm not happy with how it ended, but I loved it for its craziness. This show combined dark content with humor really well.
6. Friday Night Lights
This was a spur of the moment its Finals week in High School and I need something in the background for noise on my TV. I may have spent more time watching it than studying. I never expected to like a show about football. I don't like football at all, but the characters of this show are just so captivating. I love the feel of this show. It does feel like looking in on a town and you get attached so easily to everyone. Plus, Tim Riggins is great to look at.
7. The X-Files
I wasn't all that in love with the reboot, but this show was so incredible. There are plenty of episodes that were so bad. The feel and plot was just so great. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are so incredible that they hold this show together. This show combines scifi and procedural in the most iconic way. I also feel like my Mom got the name Dana from this show.
8. Dark Angel
I used to rewatch this show so much. This is where Jessica Alba, Michael Weatherly, and Jensen Ackles got their starts. This came from James Cameron, aka Titanic and Avatar. This was about genetically engineered kids in this post apocalyptic future. It was just so great and it was only on for two seasons.
I binged this show with my Mom and we were hooked. Obviously, I am a huge paranormal/scifi show but Sanctuary had so much going on in it. Amanda Tapping is a phenomenal actress and is the queen of this show. The plots were crazy on this show and it is just so different from anything I have seen.
10. The O.C.
I used to DVR this show when it was aired as repeats on TV. I loved all of the characters on this show. I don't gravitate to realistic shows, but the tropes of this one worked so well. I was all about Ryan and Marissa so the last season was just not my thing. I loved how this show ended. It was great to follow these characters.
What are your all time favorite shows that are no longer airing? Are any of these shows favorites of yours?
