Summer Movie Recap

with 3 comments

Wow! I watched a lot of movies this summer. Here are my thoughts on the ones I've seen and some that I still want to see!

Movies I've Seen:

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

I love every Marvel movie. They can do no wrong for me. This movie was great. Plot wise it wasn't as incredible as the first movie, but it was great for introducing characters, tying the universes together, bringing character backstories in, setting up future franchises, and setting up Captain America: Civil War and The Avengers: Infinity War. 5/5 rating

Pitch Perfect 2

I loved the first movie, but I don't this one was as good. I think it was funnier, but it wasn't as memorable especially the songs. There were many buildups that just kind of fell through and it just didn't feel like the group was fully represented equally. I wish we saw more of the Treble Clefs as well. 3/5 rating

Jurassic World

I REALLY LIKED THIS MOVIE. From the nods to the originals to hearing the original score, it was just awesome. I loved the plot and the raptors. I can't wait for the next one. Only issue: Bryce Dallas Howard was in heels for most of the movie, really? 5/5 rating

Spy

This movie was the perfect mix of action and comedy, plus who can resist Melissa McCarthy; the answer is no one. I loved how this emulated the Bond style of movies. It was really fun to see Jason Statham and Jude Law in comedic roles. 4/5 rating
Trainwreck

This movie was a lot funnier and raunchier than I expected. It was really funny, but sometimes the humor was just too much. Amy Schumer goes there and then keeps going a little farther. There were a bit too many plot lines. Overall a fun and different romantic comedy. 4/5 rating

Inside Out

I was really excited for this movie from the trailers and I didn't really enjoy it. Conceptually, it is great but I couldn't connect with it. The middle of it was extremely slow and it just wasn't as fun as most Pixar movies are. 3/5 rating

Minions

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It was just so adorable. I don't even know how. I just can't resist the minions. They are so cute. I have finally realized that they speak a mixture of languages and it is just perfect. I need more minions in my life. 5/5 rating

The Longest Ride

I don't usually feel super compelled to watch Nicholas Sparks movies, but I kept seeing the trailer for this one and it looked so good. This movie was just really what I was in the mood for. I stood up late, it watched by myself, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The romance was good and it was pretty different compared to a lot of his other books. I really like Britt Robertson and the main guy was very attractive. 3/5 rating

Ant Man

When this trailer came out I wasn't too excited for this one, but it is Marvel and therefore was fantastic. This is one of the funniest Marvel movies to date. I loved the cast and I am so ready to see an Antman sequel or rather the cast in a different Marvel movie. I love that this sets up plots for Civil War. This was a thoroughly enjoyed movie. 4/5 rating

Staten Island Summer

This was a movie that went straight to netflix, because it wasn't that good. It was kind of funny in a stupid way, but I only watched it because it was filmed and is about where I live. The funny thing is I wish it actually had more jokes about Staten Island than it did. It was surprising that there were several bigger name celebrities in it, but just lacked a good plot. 1/5 rating

Mad Max: Fury Road

I'll admit I saw this movie after it was on VOD already and after hearing so many raving reviews it wasn't what I expected. I didn't really know the story line of it. I wished there would have been more story in it, more character development. Visually it was fucking amazing, but the story could have been so much more. 4/5 rating

Movies I Still Wants To Check Out:

Vacation - It looked funny!
Terminator Genisys - I love the Terminator movies and just feel compelled to see this one.
American Ultra - This movie sounds really stupid, but at the same time really good. I heard good things from my brother.
Magic Mike XXL - I still need to see this one just because of the hot guys.
Fantastic Four - I heard it was horrible, but I am a sucker for super hero movies so I just want to see.
Tomorrowland - I heard pretty mixed things about this movie, but again I really like Britt Robertson and I can't resist a Disney movie.
Far From the Madding Crowd - I hadn't heard of this one until I was looking for summer movies to make sure I didn't miss any. This one sounds like an amazing period piece and I really need to watch it.

Jurassic World and Spy were both great! I haven't seen any of the others; I'm a bit behind on movies. :/ I also want to check out Tomorrowland and Fantastic Four.
