During her decade of working as an editor of books for children, she also earned an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. The Cost of All Things is her first book.
Meet her debut novel:
Title: The Cost of All Things
Author: Maggie Lehrman
Genre: YA Contemporary
Published: May 12, 2015 by Balzer + Bray
What would you pay to cure your heartbreak? Banish your sadness? Transform your looks? The right spell can fix anything…
When Ari’s boyfriend Win dies, she gets a spell to erase all memory of him. But spells come at a cost, and this one sets off a chain of events that reveal the hidden — and sometimes dangerous — connections between Ari, her friends, and the boyfriend she can no longer remember.
Told from four different points of view, this original and affecting novel weaves past and present in a suspenseful narrative that unveils the truth behind a terrible tragedy. Part love story, part mystery, part high-stakes drama, THE COST OF ALL THINGS is the debut of an extraordinary new talent.

Meet the CharactersAri Madrigal, 17. Ari's been a serious dancer since she was in elementary school. Her parents died in a house fire when she was little, so she's lived with her aunt, Jess, ever since. She's tough and funny. Likes: nights out with friends, the perfect pirouette, ice cream from the Sweet Shoppe where she works. Dislikes: self-deprecation, phoniness, spotting weakness in herself.Win Tillman, 17. Win lives with his younger sister and mom in a less prosperous part of town. He's dating Ari and he's well-liked at school, but not everything is as perfect as it seems from the outside. When he's feeling like himself, he's romantic and steadfast. When he's not, it's hard to feel anything at all. Likes: Ari, baseball, Markos's poker nights. Dislikes: the crushing feeling that he's not good enough and never will be.Markos Waters, 17. Markos is the youngest of four brothers who've all been the most popular in their class, and Markos tries to uphold the family tradition. He's cocky and (some would say) obnoxious, but he truly cares about his best friend, Win. Likes: being the center of attention, planning the perfect party. Dislikes: surprises, being told what to do by his older brothers (or anybody).Kay Charpal, 16. Kay's cosmetic spells make her beautiful, and she's a recent addition to Ari's circle of friends. She hasn't had many friends since her sister Mina went through chemo, but now Mina's in remission and traveling the world without her. Kay can be sweet, but some might say she's clingy. Likes: her friends, the feeling of belonging, reliability. Dislikes: being left out and left behind. How their stories connect -- and the choices they make -- reveal all sort of secrets in The Cost of All Things.
