Genre: YA Mystery/Thriller
Published: May 19, 2015 from Bloomsbury USA Childrens
A new powerful thriller from the globally-embraced author of Between.
Ten years ago, in the early hours of New Year’s Day, seven-year-old Samantha and her next door neighbor, Remy, watched as a man broke into Sam’s home and took her younger sister, Turtle, from her sleeping bag. Remy and Sam, too afraid to intervene at the time, later identified the man as Sam’s sister Gretchen’s much older ex-boyfriend, Steven, who was sent to prison for Turtle’s murder. Now, Sam’s shattered family is returning to her childhood home in an effort to heal. As long-buried memories begin to surface, Sam wonders if she and Remy accurately registered everything they saw. The more they re-examine the events of that fateful night, the more questions they discover about what really happened to Turtle. Master storyteller Jessica Warman keeps readers guessing in this arresting page-turner.
“If you got to create the perfect day of the year, what would it entail?” - Bloomsbury
Bloomsbury asked what my perfect day would entail. I thought this would be hard, but after thinking about it I knew exactly what it would be.
My perfect day is a mostly a day that I have already lived, with a few exceptions. The day would start out bright and early. I am a morning person. I know I'm weird, but the earlier you wake up the sooner the exciting things can start. Who can sleep when they know what the day will bring and amazing days always start early for me. My whole family will meet at our house. My brother David and his wife, my brother Nick and his two kids and we would all head to the airport.
Nick, David and David's wife would be cranky about being up so early. My Mom would be trying to feed everyone. My nephew would probably be entertaining himself and my niece would be making the airport a playground. My Dad would be really excited and not annoyed at us for being slow or over packing.
We would all be seated in three rows near each other on the airplane. There wouldn't be turbulence or any ear popping. We would get off the plane at Orlando International, get all of our luggage, and into a car to the hotel. It wouldn't be scorching out and we would check our luggage to be brought to our rooms. We would eat lunch in the hotel and then go and wait for a bus to the parks. The bus would come right away and there would be no wait time for the little ones to get cray cray. We would all remember sun screen so the paler members of the Square family wouldn't burn and buy water at the hotel not the park.
WE would get off the bus and see the sign for the Magic Kingdom. We wouldn't wait on any lines to pick up our passes or to get in through the bag check. We would walk to Main Street and I would get to see the faces of my brothers, niece and nephew as they see the most magical place on Earth for the first time, Walt Disney World. That is what my perfect day would entail.
