Book Description:
Lord Philippe Lavay once took to the high seas armed with charm as lethal as his sword and a stone-cold conviction: he’ll restore his family’s fortune and honor, no matter the cost. Victory is at last within reach—when a brutal attack snatches it from his grasp and lands him in Pennyroyal Green.
An afternoon of bliss brings a cascade of consequences for Elise Fountain. Shunned by her family and ousted from a job she loves, survival means a plummet down the social ladder to a position no woman has yet been able to keep: housekeeper to a frighteningly formidable prince.
The bold and gentle Elise sees past his battered body into Philippe’s barricaded heart . . . and her innate sensuality ignites his blood. Now a man who thought he could never love and a woman who thought she would never again trust must fight an incendiary passion that could be the ruin of them both.

It Started With a Scandal is a fantastic historical romance. I haven't read very much of this genre, but I enjoyed reading this book so much that I really want to go back and read the rest of this companion series. If you are a Pride & Prejudice lover, this romance is right up your alley.

This may be book ten in this series, but that didn't effect my enjoyment of this series. There were quite a few mentions of other couples who I presume have stories in other novels of this series. I am interested in reading their stories and reading more of Julie Anne Long's writing.

I loved the romance between Philippe, Lord Lavay, and Elise, Mrs. Fountain. It had a very realistic transition from employer/employee to friendship to romance. Philippe was such a fantastic character. I loved that he was dark and brooding, but could be really funny. I do wish that we would have seen as much of his backstory as we did Elise. They have a slow burn romance and it worked so well.

Philippe's relationship with Jack, Elise's son, was one of the cutest parts of this book. I adored seeing them together. Jack's dialogue at times just didn't seem to fit a six-year-old. It was either too young or too old and just didn't sound right.

It Started With a Scandal was a great read. It makes we want to dive further into this genre. I will be checking out more of Julie Anne Long's books. I highly recommend this book even if you're not a fan of this genre.
