This was the summer that would change my life.
No more being what everyone expected. No more doing what everyone else wanted.
So when Luke came into my life, I decided to keep him a secret. Maybe he as a dead-ringer for notorious Hollywood bad boy Trent Yves. And it was possible that everything he told me was a lie. And yes, I was probably asking for trouble. But all I saw was Luke--sweet, funny, caring--someone who would let me be the real me.
But which was the real him?
Author Bio:Katherine Grace Bond is the author of THE SUMMER OF NO REGRETS (Sourcebooks, 2012) and of the bestselling LEGEND OF THE VALENTINE (Zondervan, 2002), a story of the civil rights movement. She often finds herself in the woods escaping from giant cats and shadowy figures in cloaks. The creator of TEENWrite acting/writing workshops, where participants come as their characters, she lives with her husband in a dimension populated by younger people, some of whom resemble her.
The Summer of No Regrets is a really great young adult contemporary novel. It wasn't what I expected it to be from the synopsis though. I thought that it would be a fluffy little story of a girl unexpectedly falling for a heartthrob celebrity and living happily ever after. But for the most part the love story took a back burner to Brigitta and her finding who she was.
The story is very quirky. Brigitta's parent's are rather eccentric. Brigitta spends most of the novel dealing with religion. Usually I tend to dislike religion in YA especially when it isn't the synopsis. But I actually enjoyed the way Katherine used it. Brigitta was so close to her Christian grandparents who both passed away but her father resents them and his upbringing. So Brigitta's dad turns to finding himself in alternative lifestyles. I really hated their relationship though. Her father was such a hypocrite right up until the end of the novel. They truly have a very dysfunctional family. But I loved Brigitta's sister she is probably one of the best characters in the novel.
I liked the use of a blog in the story. Little things like that in a story are great. It helps break up the story. It also brought a lot of humor and backstory to Trent.
I have to say my favorite part of the story was the cougar cubs! The way that it developed a relationship between Luke and Brigitta was adorable. I am a crier when I read and I definitely cried in a certain part dealing with the cubs. I was so upset!!
I loved how this story wrapped up so nicely! I would have loved to see more of Luke and Brigitta's relationship and maybe how they would deal with his fame. But I really liked that it is a standalone novel. Though there is a novella that takes place during The Summer of No Regrets from the point of view of Luke while he isn't with Brigitta!
If you liked The Summer of No Regrets, you will like Luke’s Journal, where Luke gets to have his say. Where did he go the times he disappeared? What was he really going through at home? The book is available as a .99 download from July 18-29.
